Should we do anything about the over abundance of geese on our public fields?
The geese being there is great. What they leave behind is not so great. (see photo).
I've seen flocks of several hundred at a time at Stackpole field and the middle school.
The manufacturing plant where I work has had success at geese abatement by hiring a man who uses a border collie to chase geese away. I've heard after a few sessions the geese fly away when they recognize his truck approaching and quickly learn which field to stay away from.
Airport personnel have success using loud explosive rounds fired from a shotgun to scare geese away.
Fake coyotes only fool the dumb geese for a short while.
Check out the track at the middle school if you want to see the result of this Canadian goose over-population. Users of the track must dodge the mines.
